Naked, freedom, desire

The removal of clothing and the appearance of the body often constitute a moment of indisputable emotion. One has the impression that the inert barks of the body are being stripped, as well as its social connotations. Ordinary burdens disappear as one is invaded by a feeling of lightness, by true freedom. For Pierre Lamalattie the naked is not an exercise of style, but a kind of contained pleasure, specific to the artist. It is an invitation to share this state of suspension, this voyeurism of the subtle shapes of the human body under their appearance of radical simplicity. One should not simply be content with an overall impression of the body, but accede to a real culture of all its components.

When it is naked the body is in complete contact with the surrounding space. It experiences a sort of well-being, confidence, a carnal relationship to nature, the feeling for space, and a form of plenitude or power, something epical at times. At the same time, the nudity of the body reveals all its vulnerability, its weakness, its precariousness. Pierre Lamalattie likes to show the beauty of a body by expressing at the same time its vital presence and its vulnerability. He likes to make one feel that the beauty is a kind of apogee, splendid and tragic.

Nude is also and above all desire, sex, the inexhaustible experiment of our animality. It is a kind of absolute, in any case a recourse for those who seek taste or meaning in life. It is a reference, especially invaluable to modern men and women. Pierre Lamalattie likes to contrast sexual scenes with dull outlines of ordinary life. He also likes to show the human body with large close-ups depicted under various angles, because this is how one actively sees a sexual partner.
